Research

Professor Tchouaket's research program aims to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the four best clinical practices (BCPs) associated with the prevention and control of nosocomial infections (IPC). It is based on Finkler's framework, which states that assessing the efficiency of IPC involves comparing the costs of implementing the four BCPs with the costs of managing patients infected with nosocomial infections to determine the break-even point of the four BCPs. Results will serve as evidence for advocacy and policy briefs to convince decision-makers to invest in IPC during and after the COVID-19 pandemic in hospitals and long-term care facilities.
Evidence from the scientific literature suggests that low investment in IPC may be due to a lack of high-quality empirical studies demonstrating the cost-effectiveness of IPC, and a lack of appropriate strategies to promote the use of knowledge about the cost-effectiveness of IPC by decision-makers. This Chair will fill these gaps by carrying out empirical studies to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of IPC, which will help develop innovative strategies for applying this knowledge in a post-pandemic context to prevent outbreaks and the consequences of future pandemics.
